Death and Taxes Part II
I got back from the funeral, melancholy and depressed. I have a mailbox for my business near my house. Good news out of my direct mailing only one letter was returned due to a bad address. One point for the list company. NOW WHERE ARE ALL MY CLIENTS! Sniff sniff.
Get home and pick up the mail there. Got something from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). I’m thinking it must be something for the biz. But no, the addressee is my wife and I . WTF? Oh well.
Go in the house and make some lunch. I open the letter from the IRS. I’m like losing my appetite. This letter indicates I owe the government over $2,000 in taxes. I’m like SHIT!!! The first thought is greedy, how will I get tax clients if I cannot do my own taxes. But I calm down and look over the rest of the information and see that the last company I worked for, lets call them Asshole Forge Corp, has reported an additional $9,000 in wages than what I recorded.
Well I went and got my 2003 tax forms (the tax period in question) and I pulled out my W-2s for the missus and me and added them. Still footed to the number I reported. I start looking at all my information to see if anything was income in the $9,000 range. Nadda.
I think about calling Asshole Force Corp, but I don’t want to talk to them really. These people used me for a year, as I was the only one who new the accounting system for Cool Forge Corp (Asshole Forge bought Cool Forge fake name alert) and then dumped me after we got the data converted to Asshole Forge’s accounting system. I worked 32 hours straight overnight and on the weekend to make sure the damn thing worked right. It did and once it was verified they dumped me. Now I’m looking at this tax letter and I’m thinking, well this just fucking me part 2.
But I decide I will call the IRS first. See if they can help me. I call. I wait on the line for 30 minutes and finally get a person. I give her my info, she grills me to make sure that I am really me. I am. Then she looks at my case. Oh Simple American, we’re sorry. This was our mistake. We have already put in to send you a letter that we did make a mistake. You should get that letter in 6 to 8 weeks. We’re SORRY.
WTF!!!! Oh well I kept my cool. Damn that’s a scary fricking feeling. What a day. Death and taxes. The two things you cannot avoid and I get slammed upside the head by both on the same day.
Thank goodness for my son. He helped put life back in perspective. He received his Senior Second Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do last night. He looked cute in his uniform and deadly. When he received his belt he looked back to make sure that the missus and I were watching. Good thing we were.

Ay yi yi….
Another area the elected lawyer-elite screw all middle class Americans. The Tax system is a piece of one-week old frozen monkey turds. There has got to be a better way. But with the Democrats wanting more taxes and the Republicans only wanting to help the rich stay rich, we Middle class Americans are screwed! My prayer,…please Lord a REAL third party in America.

There should just be a flat tax. Everyone pays the same rate. No exceptions. No exclusions. Fair and equitable.
The Democrats will not allow it as they seek to use taxes as a war to redistribute wealth.
Republicans are proving to be no better than Democrats.
If we follow the general course of history, the next step for America, if we survive will be with an Emperor for the executive office. I don’t know of anyone I would want in that position. If it happens, I hope they bring back the Constitution. Goes without saying the Executive Clause would be ignored or modified in an empire.

I have to agree. A flat tax, in my eyes, would be a simple and fair remedy to the current quaqmire we’re in.
At least the IRS made a mistake!
We have a lady who volunteers at our musuem, elderly lady. Her husband, before his retirement, bought and sold stocks and played the market. He’s gone senile (dementia). The IRS knocked on her door one day… and it ends up they over 100,000 in back taxes.

Those poor folks. Its not right that Americans should fear their government or be harmed by it. Rather the government should fear the voter.

If the republicans can keep holding fast to the principles that got there where they are, soon we will have the majority necessary to override the tax code and go with a flat tax.
Several Eastern European countries have gone with the flat tax with much success. They have all seen increased tax revenue with a boost in their economies.

You see that’s the whole problem. Down here in Texas the Republicans are spending like drunken sailors and they don’t do anything to relieve the property owner.
We don’t have an income tax in Texas. They rely on property taxes and sales taxes to support the state.
If I cannot trust the local Republicans I find it difficult to have faith in the national Republicans. I used to donate money to the Rebublicans, but I have not seen a lot of differences when it comes to handling money. I just keep my money in my pocket now. I’ll need it for taxes later.

So you were just supposed to wait for 6-8 weeks for a letter telling you it was all a mistake?! WTF! I would go crazy if I found out I owed 2 grand the the gov’t and in that 6-8 weeks, life would really suck. Great sytem the IRS has there.

If I had not taken a class in college on how to handle the letter it sure could have been a lot worse. Can you an entire College course on how to deal with this crap? Oh well at least the Professor was entertaining, which is probably why I paid attention and was able to react properly. God bless him, wherever he is.

I really hate taxes.
But Jesus said, “Give to Ceasar what belongs to Ceasar.”
So I try to be honest here.
I may not even go to my own funeral. That’s how much I hate these things. Just another reason for people to gossip.

Flat taxes aren’t feasable. It’s like communism. Sounds good in theory, turns out to be worthless in practice.
And I’m not choosing political sides here, it’s just my humble opinion.

Another thing I’ve never understood about the USA (please explain). How come you can only vote for two parties? That doesn’t sound like a democracy at all to me.
Over here in Belgium we’ve got at least 10 parties to choose from. Anyway, not that that really matters because most of them do nothing when elected anyway.
August 5th, 2005 at 9:30 am
There’s more than two parties. Its just that the Dems and the Reps have more money and all the attention. Very difficult to garner national attention for an upstart party. Though Ross Perot got some folks attention duting the 90s. Too bad he was a fruitcake.
if you exam flat taxes in history you will see they are quite effective at providing money for a good government, while stimulating the economy. Of course, you have to have a doog government that understands they serve the people and not the other way around.
