Registration Time Again
Back to work at the job that pays the bills, but kills my passion. We are in registration at the moment. Students are in a rush as they try to get registered. Tomorrow is the last day that they register for the Fall semester.
I kind of enjoy doing this, though it is quite different from my regular duties as internal auditor. I get to meet a lot of students during this process. I always get the job of printing out the student bills. This task is boring, but it keeps me from having to handle assets or doing some other task that could minimize my independence.
The fun part is talking to the students. A few have encountered me in the past and we chat. The new students are the most fun to watch. They approach nervous and unsure of themselves and the process. Usually a parent, sometimes both, accompanies them apprehensive, looking to guard every nickel and protect their baby. Some come up quietly give me their ID number and walk away without another word. There are a few problem students and they come up with a chip on their shoulder. I try to defuse them the best I can with the meager information at my disposal. If they get pissed I just send them to a person that can help.
What’s tough is I’m getting sleepy, and I have to wait it out in front of everyone that walks by. Guess I better stand up or I’ll be drooling in my keyboard. Maybe it’ll create a shock and wake me up. Or I could beat myself over the head with the keyboard. Maybe still get shocked that way. Plus the students might freak.
Only five hours to go.

lol! i laughed at the last part, hit yourself with the keyboard and the students might freak! you always give me mental images.
on a more serious note, being a creative person, you need your air as much as i do too! it is always funny to note that creative people also have such a mundane side to them, eg. you’re an internal auditor!
i just met a band player who is totally wacko on stage and he is an accountant in training.
now i know why we all blog! LOL.

I get images from you too misti. When I read your posts it has a rhytm that matches the voice cadence of a coworker during college. She was from Singapore and I hear hear her voice whenever I read your words. And I must say this voice only works on you of all the Singapore ladies that I visit. This lady was conscientious and sweet and I sense that quality in you.
Most peculiar. Though I know you are not my classmate, as she still lives in Houston with her husband and two sons.

Hi Simple American, Thank you for visiting me at my blog, and even thinking of me in the very first place. These were unexpected yet appreciated.
I remember you are an accountant, from what you have shared in Mistipurple’s blog, but I shall find some time to read your blog to know you a little better. Please give me some time.

In college I used to go to the Singapore/Malasian Student Union Dances. So I met a lot of your countryman and I would listen to the intonation of the Singapore speaker. Some had very British accents, while others were neutral. I must admit that folks from your part of the world possessed excelent command of the English language. It exceeded that of most other Asians. Some Americans too.
So I have just taken some of those folks I knew and attached their voice to you and our other friends. The thing I find odd is that each one of you does have a unique voice. These assignments have been made without conscious thought. You are the only person that sounds like Siew Ling. Cat has a very different voice, kind of wild and impetuous. Oceanskies has a very deliberate thougtful voice. Wabbit sounds like a Brit in my head, though she has some Aussie slang. Yng Lyn has a very proper Brit accent though she has a Cockney when she’s excited.
I was thinking of doing an entry on this. Don’t have to now.
