My New Sleigh

The day after Christmas my wife and I went and purchased a 2006 Chevrolet Impala. We purchased our Nissan Quest back in 1994 and put close to 150,000 miles on it. The poor thing needs to belong to a mechanic as it old and needs lots of care. Plus the gas mileage was eating me up with my 75 mile commute to work and then 75 miles back.

The Impala is a sweet ride. I’m having to adjust to being so low to the ground after driving my Quest and our Chevy Avalanche. She has a 3.5 liter V-6 engine and there’s quite a lot of room under the hood to work on her. Most important to me is she has anti-lock power brakes all around and there are lot of safety features. I considered this because in two years my daughter will be driving and this is the car she will use most likely. If I do make any changes at all to the Impala, I may put in an MP3 player. Since juggling whether I want that or not.

Just an FYI. I cannot see my cbox again. I’m not ignoring anyone. I need to find out what to do to fix this. Bear with me until then. K?

3.5 with V6 engine… wow! yeah, good to have the safety features.

  2. Etchen Says:

Will you be buying me one as well? ;-)

  3. Lynne Says:

Nice!!! Does it come with silver impala that jumps around on your dashboard?

Are you going to put bubble wrap all around it when it’s time for your angel to take over the car?

I know exactly what you mean by getting used to the height of the car. I used to drive a Mitsubishi Eclipse, and now I have a MDX, talk about difference in height!

  4. mistipurple Says:

vroom vrrooom, i’m gonna steal a ride.

  5. crazycat Says:

    yes~ i wan MP3 player!!!

oh.. u weren’t talking about me? lol

    *wink*

  6. JoeC Says:

ahh, nice car, a V6! how fast does it go? yep low and fast now, you’re the grease lightning of the streets. Is it a variable valve engine? Have a nice ride. Cheers!

  7. yvy Says:

hmmm….i’m VERY bad with cars but i like the way it looks. looks like its got LOADS of leg space n THAT i like. :D

HAPPY NEW YEAR KHOR!!! *great way to start the new year if i mishgt add. ;) *

  8. Simple American Says:

@pinkie Yeah. I got to take care of my baby. I cannot believe she will be old enough for a learner’s permit next October.

    @etchen If I ever win the lottery…

@lynne I wacked that little impala the first time it jumped off the dash. Scared the hell out of me.

I don’t know about bubble wrap, but I might put tires all around for a little more protection.

I kept bumping my head until I learned how to lower the seat. Talking about driving comfort. Beats the Quest by a mile. Still kind of like my truck more. Can intimidate in that beast. mwuhahaha

    @mist Come on in. Vroom!!!

@cat I can send a rubberband for your old player. Course I prolly just use my mp3 headset thingie.

@joec I don’t know how fast it will go. I rearely hit a 100 and usually stick to 80 unless I got a rabbit to follow. It does not have variable valve. If I was not looking to save gas I could have bought the SS version with a 5.3L V8 engine.

@YvY Its got all kinds of leg room front and back. Seats are really comfy.

Of course New Year to you mui!!!

  9. ray ray Says:

I like it, but I wouldn’t let a teenager behind the wheel heck no!

(maybe I’m bitter cuz my first car I loaned to a teenage girl and it came back crumpled.)

  10. L B Says:

Good Car, New Car, New Year, Good Year to you, Simple American! Happy 2006

  11. Lynne Says:

So when your angel takes over the car, it will look more like a boat, with tires around it? Make sure you take a pic of that when it finally happens!!

Hahaha, when I go out in my ugle, out-dated, hicklish 1995 Ford 150, no one messes with me!!

  12. socialpest Says:

ahh thats a handsome car. fit for a handsome man! and sleek for the daughter too! :) great choice.

  13. oceanskies79 Says:

Hope you manage to see your cbox again.

I could see that the safety of your children is of topmost priority in your choice of a car.

  14. Christine Says:

mmm..pretty car! Your daughter is lucky!!

I used to tag along to my sister’s reunions. It is fun listening to the olden’ days!

I need comedic relief with many things or I will start bawling my eyes out:)

  15. mistipurple Says:

bet when the tyres come up round the car, the funky teen won’t get near it. :) )

@rayray It is a scary thought. But she’s a responsible kid when she is not giggling. The way commute is now, it will be better for her to drive. As it is now she has to wait three and a half hours for me to pick her up after school. I’d feel better if she was home, so I’m willing to take this risk.

Happy New Year to you l b. Wish you the best.

@lynne haha Of course I will taka a pic. Will put it right next to yours.

Thanks socialpest. Who’s the handsome man btw? haha

@py Yeah I would feel miserabe if anything happened to her. She’ll do fine. Of course as a child she used to always run around the bannister to go upstairs and whack her forehead on the rail. Everytime. Poor child. I hope she has grown out of that.

Yeah Christine. Need a good laugh or I will join you in a long cry.

Misti you are 100% right. But then it will be walk or drive. Sorry no br allowed to chaffeur. All girls school anyway. hehe

Thanks kimanandra. Hope your Christmas was nice. Have a Happy New Year.

Happy New Year to you, joec!

When I opened the trunk I thought about your friend, CC. I could fit three of you in this trunk. haha

I wish you, your family, and your friends a very Happy New Year. And congrats that you may be going to Asia in ‘06. I get to be envious all over again. haha

  20. Christine Says:

Have a Happy New Year to you and your family!

    Cheers,
    Christine

  21. mistipurple Says:

since this is working better than the cbox for you, i should wish you once more, a grand new year 2006! may you have more publications and everything moving real smooth for you!

  22. Simple American Says:

Thanks Christine. You get to go fist on this New Years thing. Happy New Year. Have fun.

@misti You are already in 2006. Hope it is a stellar year for you. Still trying to get Skinwalker out. I made a big booboo but fixed it today. So 2006 will start off with its release.

  23. ray ray Says:

yes, i imagine your daughter is infinitely more responsible than the teenager of which I spoke.

so, are we rooting against the Texans so we can get Reggie Bush?

I say that would make them instant contenders

  24. Selba Says:

Woooooossssshhhh… did I hear your car just passed by? kekekeke…. cool :) Wish I could have a car.

Glückliches neues Jahr, wünschen Ihnen das ganzes beste!!!

  25. transience Says:

awesome! will you give her and me a spin?

  26. Simple American Says:

I want the Texans to lose and get that pic. I don’t know rayray about taking Bush. I’m thinking they should trade the pick and build at a lot of the positions that need it. They really have some decent RBs at the moment. Bush would not give us that much more without a line to block for him.

Ich auch wuenschen Sie die schoenes neues jahren Selba.

    Would love to transience.

  27. Abaniko Says:

    Gorgeous. Just gorgeous!

  28. Simple American Says:

    Thanks abaniko. Appreciate it.

  29. Jane Says:

    OMG!!!!!!! COOL!!!!

  30. Simple American Says:

Thanks Jane. Hope your feeling better.

  31. ray ray Says:

    well, I guess we ‘won’

you do have a point about the line though, just look at barry sanders he never won a super bowl, maybe they should hire you for head coach…

  32. Simple American Says:

Oh I don’t know about that rayray. The only game I watched all year round was the game I went to.

Most all I know is from reading papers and listening to sports talk here and there. I just remember how well the Cowboys did when they traded Herschel Walked. I think we could make that kind of trade with this pick.

  33. ray ray Says:

either way good thing they lost that last game hehe, or they might not have this deliciously difficult decision to make.

who’s your pick for the super bowl?

i’m rooting for seattle but I don’t know who will win, if not seattle then maybe a dark horse because I’m not sold on new england or indy this year

  34. Simple American Says:

I don’t even know who is in the playoffs. lol Its sad, especially considering this is football country. Its a combination of fatherhood and the Oilers leaving town that killed my former fanatacism. I used to schedule my like around the Oilers.

I always liked Seattle. The colors were appealing to me and I like that part of the country too. Used to have an aunt that lived up there. Big Craig Largent fan when he was playing. Too bad he never made it to the big game.

  35. Christine Says:

    Hang in there!

I have school stuff to do and get my externship act together this week and work too! So yeah, not too shabby for me either.

    That’s 2006!

  36. Simple American Says:

Hope it all goes smooth for you Christine.

I wonder if this will be like every other year? It will be February before I stopping writing 2005.

  37. Yng Lyn Says:

korrr… i love yer new car…. and am planning to hijack it for the new year!!myuahaahaha
joking lah o kor.. here’s a toast to a wonderful 2006 for you and your family!! :D

  38. Simple American Says:

Thanks LyN. Take ya fer a drive mui. A toast to you and your family.

Damn I still have not found that script. And now I’m back at work. Damn rat race. You take care and try and stay out of the race if you can.

  39. ray ray Says:

wow, taking me back to the largent days hoh?

it’d be nice to see them win the big one just once, I’m from Portland so it’s kind of my adopted team, the only NFL team in that whole area.

  40. Simple American Says:

I’d cheer for them. Who was the QB with Largent. It’s killing me trying to remember. Those brain cells are victims of 151.

  41. ray ray Says:

    i thought it was warner

  42. Simple American Says:

There was a guy who’s name that began with a Z too.

  43. DirtyUnicorn Says:

Sweet ride! Man has the Impala come a long way from the pimp mobile of the seventies :D

I know what I need to trade in the 94 Taurus Wagon for hehe ;)

  44. Simple American Says:

Its nice. My wife played the salesman like a fiddle too. Got a great deal. They did not stand a chance.
