Whole Lot of Posts Behind

First thing first my new Mui tagged me again. YvY did not know I have done the memories tag and here is a link for what I wrote back then. http://simpleamerican.blogspot.com/2005/07/thanks-for-memories-thanks-for-tag.html

I can update it to fit today. After all she is my mui-mui and I gotta respect her.

10 Years ago today: I was busting my ass at the Adams Mark Hotel in Houston. My boss had been fired, again. They fired this same guy three times before he was gone for good. I really missed him as he was quite a mentor to me. He got screwed because the corporate people did not like him as he protected the owner’s son from looking bad. So I was Assistant Controller without any boss for two months and having to deal with the owner’s son as GM by myself. The son was very capable; in fact I believe he is running corporate now. But I was pretty stressed. I got fired on June 1st after the new Controller had a firm grip on the property.

5 Years ago today: Still laughing over the fact that we survived the change of Millenniums. How anticlimactic could it have been? Just returned from a family ski vacation at Lake Tahoe. Worked for Coffer Corporation as a staff accountant back then. I miss working on financials, auditing is such a bore.

1 Year ago today: Working at the college. Bored to death, planning out my enrollment audit of Continuing Education.

Yesterday: Been setting up my audit plan on MS Project for the rest of the fiscal year. Should have scheduled my blogging time on it too, ha-ha. Tried to figure out how to print this schedule, so the Dean will know what I’m up to. Also it was one of the three things I’m required to do from last year’s review. Went home and ate lasagna with the family. Wanted to watch the Rose Bowl, but Preston and I needed to work on Skinwalker. We took the time to answer Trey’s questions from his edits. This cleaned up Skinwalker quite a bit and removed some ambiguities. I needed to provide some info on the Shaman and Skinwalker class and organization feats. I readied all of this up last night, as I do not want to be slow Preston down anymore than I already have. All I owe him now is a condensed biography for the author section. Finished in time to watch the last 40 seconds of the Rose Bowl. I hate both teams, but I live in Texas and have to listen to the Longhorn fans gloat. Maybe I should just my office door.

Tomorrow: Friday means I get off early at noon. I hope to finish writing my draft for the Internal Audit Charter (also due in April.) The school does not have one and it really should. I’m thinking about going to see King Kong though it probably won’t happen as my daughter has piano lessons and the boy has tae kwon do. If I’m lucky maybe I can go by Borders Bookstore. Not a good idea. Need to save some money now. Property taxes have to be paid by month’s end or the penalties are levied. Probably watch some movies in the evening at home. So many DVDs we got over Christmas that I have not had time to watch. I want to see Aliens vs. Predator and Thirteenth Warrior. Of course I may watch Serenity again too. I love that storyline.

I have to change my locations from my previous post. Kicking out the Outback and replacing it with southeast Asia. I need to meet you people and it does not seem as daunting considering how well you all speak English.

On the movies list You’ve Got Mail is replaced by Serenity.

So that’s that for this tag. Kind of nice revisiting this post. No I won’t tag anyone. But if you accept the tag I shall read it.

I enjoyed staying home for the holidays. I really HATE going back to work. I HATE it. The worst part was I hardly goofed off at all while I was home. I goof off more at work, like now. I spent a great deal of time working on the financials for 12 to Midnight, dealing with payroll tax issues we did not have in previous years. Employee bonus killed my time, but hey we deserve something for just working too. Hopefully, it will be bigger next year considering all of the free lancers that we will publish this year. Also need to get a budget worked out for 12 to Midnight. Ideally I can visit Preston and he and I can hash out a realistic one. This will be a good use for Ed’s sales reports, especially in developing the sales forecast.

And I have the Cub Scout Fair looming in the near future too. I need to start begging soon for that. Fund raising and seeking donation is not my forte but it is my task. I need to see if I can find restaurants or grocers that will donate food to the scouts. Going to check out toy stores and department stores to see if I can get free marbles, chess sets, and some Frisbees. Disappointed that none of the Scout Leaders I am helping have contacted me regarding what projects they want the boys to do. If they don’t tell me soon I’m just make the selections myself (which I kind of started to do already) and that is that. At the moment I am expecting 200 boys. To handle this group I need 20 Boy Scouts to act as Den Leaders and 40 adult leaders for each den. This way I maintain two deep adult leadership that is required by BSA for each den. Thus each den will have two leaders, a boy scout and 10 cubs of the same age.

I have not been to the Church where this event is to be held. I would like to get a walk through of the facility. This way I know what I have on hand to work with and how much field. If it rains or it freezes I need to see what I can do inside. So far I am only planning one activity that has to be done outside. With a good size gym though, even this activity may work inside. Lot of questions I need to get answered quickly.

I need to figure out what the belt loop and activity pins will cost. I want to be able to award these to the boys that day. Instant recognition fires the desire to do more. And I want these kids to enjoy working on these activities. Got to figure out where this money is going to come from and I fear the answer looks back at me in the mirror. I would really like to be able to get a patch or t-shirt for this event as well. Need to learn how to raise funds and quick. Almost wish I could charge a nominal fee, but I’m informed by those that know that this could really kill attendance. Oh well. I’ll follow the Cub Scout motto and “do my best.”

Skinwalker may finally be available for sell next Wednesday. It will be so nice to get this out after so long. I need to do a better job of writing this stuff. I hoped to finish Fire in the Hole’s adventure generator over the holidays, but the financial and tax stuff just ate my time up. Plus the adventure generator keeps expanding when I do work on it. But the adventure will be fun. Dirty Unicorn Games is making some tiles especially for this mod and they are looking sweet. I can hardly wait for it to get out. Also need to finish my class book about Shamans and Skinwalkers. That’s something we wanted to get out before Christmas to fill in before Skinwalker’s release and it did not happen. I probably dropped the ball on that one. Need to finish this and it should be easy enough. Just need to add a few doo-dads to make it more fun for the gamers that buy this type of product.

My son got me addicted to Star Wars Battlefront I for the X-Box. He received this on Christmas day. It makes it difficult for me to work, but I did nonetheless. But I suffer even more because I do not take up a controller and destroy the enemies of the Republic/Empire. Yes I am member of Vader’s Fist, fear me and surrender. But wait until I finish working before I come and conquer you.

I also got to finally open my AT-AT, which I showed in an earlier picture during December. Still have not had time to play with it yet! Maybe I’ll have time in March when my birthday comes around. My dance card seems full until then. L

Speaking of birthday, I have decided I need an IPOD Nano. I was considering getting a Palm Pilot, but the IPOD can communicate with MS Outlook too. What the IPOD can do that the Palm Pilot cannot is patch into my car. Yep that’s right. The new Impala has a patch jack just crying out for an IPOD Nano. I must do this.

The worst part of the Christmas holidays was never getting with my business partners. We hardly even chatted on the phone or IMed. It really sucked, because my partners are also my buds and shit I wanted to spend some time with them. I will see them at the Board of Directors meeting which has to occur this month. Hope we have time to play too, but I have a feeling that we may have to put in a lot of work during this meeting.

Attended two parties hosted by my wife’s friends, one on Christmas Eve and the other on New Year’s Eve. I had a better time with them than I usually do, but still I ma missing so much of the conversation. My Mandarin sucks and the only way it’s going to get better is to leave me alone in the middle of Beijing, Shang Hai, or Taipei for three months. That worked for me in Germany and Korea. Might even learn to write, I did in Korea. The one thing I did not like was toasting at 11:00 on New Year’s Eve. I don’t live on the east coast. I’m a Texan. I want to toast on Central Standard Time. Fuck New York and the glittery ball. That’s just me. I guess that’s what it feels like to be a minority. Despite it all I lived and it is a New Year.

Hope all of you are doing well. God bless you in the New Year.

2006 Predictions

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006

Mike over at The Deep Freeze tagged me. This tag requires me to give my predictions for 2006. He says I can do as many as I want (he did ten) and about whatever I like. I can even recycle his. I’m not going to tag anyone which is my normal way of handling tags. But it could be fun to see what others predict. Let me clarify that I have never considered myself to be much of a prognosticator.

Okay blog readers, here we go with my predictions for 2006:

1. Samuel Alito will be confirmed by the Senate. The Republicans will not have to resort to the "nuclear option." (I copied Mike on this. No brainer here.)

2. Bush will have to select a new Vice president. Dick Cheney steps down, giving Dems one less target for pointing fingers.

3. The Dow drops as interest rates rise and the trade deficit with China grows wider. More jobs and factories move overseas to India and China.

4. Congress will not reach a deal on the Patriot Act and end up extending it "as is" to the end of 2006 creating a colossal campaign issue for the 2006 midterm elections. (Copied from Mike. Getting sick of politics. Thank God for the US military, because Congress has never made me feel safe).

5. The Texas state primaries see a number of incumbents losing. The citizens show at the ballot box that they are tired of the present property tax systems. Reforms will be expected to follow.

6. U.S. Troop levels in Iraq will be below 95,000 in time for the midterm elections in November. (Agree with Mike on this. As Iraqi security training is completed, the American military will pull out).

7. Bush will revisit Social Security reform with a renewed campaign blitz this summer putting the debate on the table for the midterm elections. (I’m hoping. Copied Mike again. Not too original am I)?

8. Another natural disaster will occur that rivals the tsunami and Katrina in media coverage and government recovery effort. (Copy Mike on this. Also because God is fed up with the current state of Christianity).

9. The Houston Texans trade the first draft pick of the NFL. Unfortunately, they cannot hire a new coach in time and the people selected do not fit the new coaches scheme. They also earn the first round draft pick from the 2006 season because of this.

10. Tom DeLay is founded innocent in a jury trial. Travis District Attorney Ronnie Earle is shown to be the liberal tool that he is. When the new Texas Congress fixes property taxes, they move onto legal reforms. Unfortuanately DeLay, who is the only Representive I have voted for since I left the Army in ‘84 fails to get my vote this year. He is much too close to Jack Abramhoff who just pleaded guilty to three felony charges. DeLay resigns before the election so another Republican can win this seat. DeLay is not found guilty on any of the charges from his dealings with Abramhoff.

Had to make a couple changes to #10 with the news of the day.
