DaVinci Code vs. The Resurrection
Okay the big movie of 2006 is showing on the silver screen. I have read the book, but have yet to see the movie. I will view the film because I consider it entertainment and nothing more. I warn you there may be spoilers in this writing. Avoid this post if it might diminish your enjoyment from the flick or the book. But come back when you are done with the film and/or book.

A lot of Christians have been offended by Dan Brown’s book. Being a Christian myself I do not care for the blasphemy that suggests Jesus married Mary Magdelene and fathered children. This blasphemy denies the resurrection of Christ. Already there are those that take Brown’s fiction as fact by promoting his story as a possibility. Christians should be able to recognize these folk. These same people take every effort to deny the efforts and results of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross and in his ressurrection.
The problem many of us face is how do we present the resurrection of Christ in a way that supports the truth? More importantly how do we communicate this information to people that are considering salvation, but have been confused by this attack on Christianity? This is my suggestion.
The Sanhedrin hoped they would hear no more of Christ after they convinced the Romans to crucify him. But this did not occur and soon the word of resurrection reached them. The reappearance of Jesus gave the early Church hope and its numbers swelled because of this. This forced the Sanhedrin to act against the Christians. An example of this being Saul of Tarsus, the youngest member of the Sanhedrin ever, who was determeined to suppress the new church.
The Romans were not pleased at the news of the resurrection either. They found the Jews were a difficult people to rule. Awareness of this new religion following the Christ moved them to fear an uprising. When they heard of the resurrection, it intensified this concern.
What would have been the most effective way to debunk Christ’s resurrection? Produce a body. The Sanhedrin and Pontius Pilate would have gladly displayed the dead body of Christ in Jerusalem. They had no concerns regarding human rights or civil liberties in that day. Why did they not display Jesus’ corpse?
Because they had no body to display. They must have been tearing their hair out. The easiest proof to debunk Christ’s resurrection would have been to produce Christ’s corpse. They did not because they could not. If the corpse of Christ had been presented this would have been recorded in history. The opponents of the church would have made a concerted effort to record this and see the news spread in future histories.
When you watch DaVinci Code remember it is just a piece of fiction. When you hear people speak out and have doubts because of the misinformation regarding Christ and Mary Magdalene. Hold on to this fact and keep your faith strong. Spread the truth where and when it needs to be heard.

Well, time to CHUP!! Since I won’t be watching the movie until July.. And it’s fiction..
May 17th, 2006 at 5:56 pm
And chup you have!!! Still debating the Hug Hug Club franchise thingie. I deal with numbahs all day. Not sure if I want to have another set of books to deal with.
May 17th, 2006 at 6:18 pm
I’ve “done” the book a few months ago. “doing” the movie this Saturday. yay! want insider info? huh? yea? will give a review after that.
May 17th, 2006 at 8:02 pm
I might go this weekend May. Depends on whether I get my chores done.
May 17th, 2006 at 8:48 pm
We’ll just treat this as fiction..
May 17th, 2006 at 9:02 pm
Thats what I aim to do ZM.
May 17th, 2006 at 9:30 pm
i couldn’t agree with you more.. all of it.. i’d probably be watching it next week.. too occupied with class and all… well, unfortunately it depicts christianity the wrong way.. especially for non-believers.. for those who hold strong to the faith, shouldn’t be shaken by fiction like that.. as you said..pure entertainment.. but on the bright side, at least it makes people sit up and ask questions, and show interest towards christianity that was once thought to be boring and dreary…
May 17th, 2006 at 9:56 pm
Meh. It wouldn’t take the Brown’s book (which I think is ridiculous BTW - did this moron even research Leonardo at all?!?) to shed a bad light on Christianity. Humans have been doing that for over 2000 years all by themselves. Little things like the crusades, the inquisitions (no one expects the Spanish inquisition!) and the never-ending-war for Jerusalem. I won’t even start with modern crimes committed by “men of god”. Religious fervor can be one of the worst sides of men.
Christians just need to snazz things up again. Get some good media spin going. A few special effects. An all star cast. I mean Passion was a good attempt, but geeze there was almost as much blood in it as Hostel. My brother’s not a Christian, but even he was like “will you please stop beating him already”. I say bring back Heston. Get another HUGE movie going like Ben Hur with it’s 3000 extras. Have Ridley Scott direct it. He loves those historical epics (sad though cause I miss his sci-fi).
If the Christians keep pumping out Kirk Cameron straight-to-DVD B-movies they will never have a chance with this next generation.
I’ll go see it cause I like Tom Hanks and hey it’s Ron Howard. I mean come on. Opie. Richie. Wouldn’t the devil assume a little more… you know… dramatic persona. *shrug*
Anyway I’m more afraid that the movie will portray the Templars as evil (and albinos… why are they always so misunderstood… poor powder)
May 17th, 2006 at 10:01 pm
Well, if one looks at it objectively… the author, the book and now the movie is purely a work of fiction as we all know. But the ruckus it has raised makes me wonder if the people who slam it truly do believe in God and the Word. They remind me of the Pharisees somehow.
May 17th, 2006 at 10:22 pm
I would like to go this weekend JJ. Depends on how busy I am. I still have a lot of things to do for my business.
Another great movie to counter this would be great DU. Lately, I have toyed with the idea of writing a script based on Ester. She was quite a woman. People give her a bad rap and they have no business thinking so badly of her. She saved Israel.
Tom Hanks and Ron Howard alone would get me to the movies. Put em together and no way I can miss it. The Passion focused so much on his physical suffering that his spiritual death is totally forgotten.
Yep MP. Its a story. Christians should have a lot better things to do with their life than protest a movie.
May 18th, 2006 at 2:03 am
I read the book and liked it. I learned some interesting facts.
I’m not seeing the movie and I’m not listening to some christians who think it should be boycotted. What is that all about?
May 18th, 2006 at 2:16 am
They decided not to cut last 10 mins here…and it’s showing today..
I did enjoy the book but not as much as the previous one “Angels & Demons”
May 18th, 2006 at 5:39 am
I liked the book, though Demons and Angels and Deception Point were much better reads. I don’t understand Christian activism, expecially on a trivial matter like this. I guess these people have forgotten how to pray.
That’s good Jane. Censorship is not something to be done lightly. I agree with you on Demons and Angels.
May 18th, 2006 at 9:23 am
I’m catching DVC next week. Have to wait for friends.
The local authorities claimed not to cut any part of the movie. Well, this is muslim country anyway. Do they really care what negative effect the movie could have on Christianity here? I wonder.
May 18th, 2006 at 9:50 am
AMEN TO THAT KHOR!!! *gives a standing ovation* You say it with such power n conviction, I’m SO proud of u as I share your views on this matter too.
With tha said, I cant wait to check out the movie. The book was ok, prefer Angels n Demons anytime so here’s hoping that the flick is a good one despite it being said to be a laughing stock at Cannes.
May 18th, 2006 at 10:17 am
I may go this weekend, but more likely I will go next weekend. Business has too much paperwork and I need to write and edit some too. I doubt your government would care too.
*blushes* Thanks YvY. Gosh. I liked Angels and Demons a lot more. Widh they had filmed it first to maintain the sequence.
May 18th, 2006 at 11:02 am
We are going this Sat! Let’s do synchronised movie watching. What time is it your side if its 6.15pm our side?
May 18th, 2006 at 11:21 am
That would be nice Jomel. To be able to go at the same time as the KL Hug Hug Club. That would be 5:15am for me. Hmmmm…
If I go to the first showing on Friday at 12:30pm it would be Satuday 1:30am. Not good. The last showing is 10:45pm which is same as 11:45am Saturday.
I think we may have to settle for the same day. And that in itself would be lovely to me.
May 18th, 2006 at 11:27 am
i totally have to see this….i’ll never get to the movies though..that’s just the way it is…you know…but i want to see it…..
DUDE!!!!!!!!! HOW THE HELL ARE YA??????????? xo
May 18th, 2006 at 11:49 am
Oh I do know Mitzee. I usually have to wait for the DVD. All of my women folk wanna go and hey someone has to drive them right?
AND I AM FIND AND SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU STILL BLOGGING!!!!!!!!xo
May 18th, 2006 at 11:52 am
I’ve read all of Dan Brown’s book. It was only Angels and Demon that really stuck to me. I hope they make a movie about it.
Personally, I think all these controversies could turn out to be a good thing for churches. People are questioning their faith and want to find out the truth for themselves. Kinda like during election time. Don’t buy everything the candidates or campaign ads tell you. Do your own homework and decide yourself.
May 18th, 2006 at 11:57 am
I agree Simmie. That is the movie I would like to see. Angels and Demons was a lot more intense any day of the week.
Hopefully people will do their homework. I always enjoy when the irreligious attack Christianity and get mud on their face.
May 18th, 2006 at 12:13 pm
i wouldn’t mind watching the movie too… for pure entertainment. it would be good to see how the movie was done. ron howard is a good talented director, and dan brown… well, let’s face it… he’s a damn good writer with interesting, creative and imaginative mind - so that would be part of the reason why i want to see the movie.
you know, i wouldn’t be surprise if there are some (and believe it or not, christians most probably) who would stop me from seeing it saying stuffs like “what? such a blasphameous story, you want to watch?” or “you don’t believe jesus was married but this movie shows jesus was married, yet you want to see it.” gosh, i guess these are the people who don’t know how to seperate fiction from real life.
May 18th, 2006 at 1:07 pm
The talent behind this movie and the story is top notch Lucia.
Going to see a movie is an expression of volition. Volition ia the greatest thing God gave all men. Without volition we fucntion on instinct like an animal. I considering interfering with another’s person volition evil. A Christian that would do this to you Lucia is just as evil and maybe more than any movie or book written.
I hope you can enjoy trhe movie. Because it is a good fictional tale.
May 18th, 2006 at 1:13 pm
*wavewave*
me, i’m a lazy bugger…i’ve not read the book… i’m not a christian, nor am i a religious person… so when i watch it tomorrow, i’m gonna take it as an entertainment
hv a good weekend!
May 18th, 2006 at 1:20 pm
*waves back*

ahhh…KL goes to bed…but SanGiovanni is still awake
this slow half of the day is for you to concentrate on your work… LOL! Cos there’s no need to go around and chup chup chup!
May 18th, 2006 at 2:21 pm
San Giovanni hides until Little Miss May is wakey wakey. No easy chup hor liao.
But I do get more work done when SE Asia is all tucked in.
May 18th, 2006 at 4:51 pm
LOLOLOL!!! Amen to that!!! ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz…
May 18th, 2006 at 5:04 pm
Night L B. Thought you would understand. You and FF both.
When San Giovanni goes to bed it means I go home soon. Once home I slowly watch KL, Singapore, and Bangkok arrive for work.
May 18th, 2006 at 7:53 pm
Yay! I am watching the movie tomorrow! I laugh at myself thinking how I avoided the book like a plague at the beginning but after reading it, it’s good fiction, fast paced and a page turner - just the way I like my books. Yesterday, I finished the last of Dan Brown’s four books!
May 18th, 2006 at 8:39 pm
Wow! So you read through all of em. I have missed one. I read Demons and Angels as well as Deception Point. Guess I need to go looking for the other.
May 18th, 2006 at 10:33 pm
huh? i thought yesterday i made a comment but it seemed to disappear. dunno what happened.
anyway i was saying i intend to watch the movie too… for entertainment. ron howard is a good director and i want to see how he directed the movie. tom hanks is a good actor too but i heard comments that he is quite stiff in the acting.
btw i agree with simmee too. all these hoo-haas on the movie, do give attention to the church, making people more aware of their faith. somewhere i read said, christians are turning to the bible more now, that the movie is here.
May 18th, 2006 at 10:45 pm
The other one is Digital Fortress. My personal favourite - Deception Point!
May 18th, 2006 at 10:58 pm
You did Lucia. I can still see it. I even replied.
I hope Christians are doing that. Really the reason I posted this is because I wanted to arm Christians with a good argument that I learned recently.
I liked Deception Point the best too Bkworm. Digital Fortress huh. Might be time to go to the library.
May 18th, 2006 at 11:09 pm
hmmmm i posting without reading anything LOL
May 18th, 2006 at 11:25 pm
hahaha
LOL
May 20th, 2006 at 10:19 am
hhmm by now you should have already watched the movie! its the weekend!
May 20th, 2006 at 10:31 am
I just woke up JJ and it is Saturday morning. If I finish all the taxes and my other commitments I will go today.
May 20th, 2006 at 1:55 pm
I am looking forward to your perspective on the film…I liked the book enough, but not so much that I feel the need to see it on screen, especially after some of the lousy reviews I’ve read.
I hope you’re having a great weekend!
May 20th, 2006 at 2:49 pm
I’m having a taxing weekend Kimananda. I just love doing all these @#&* taxes. But once I am done I will go to DVC.
Hope your weekend is nice!!!
May 20th, 2006 at 3:28 pm
Have not read nor seen DVC. Just started reading Angels & Demons, so far so good (the ambigram is so cool!)..and I can’t get Tom Hanks out of my mind as I go through the book!! (I heard that George Clooney and Russell Crowe was considered for the role of Langdon, but methinks Tom Hanks is the better choice)
May 20th, 2006 at 4:53 pm
I liked Angels and Demons more than DVC. Enjoy.
Tom Hanks looks the role so much more than Crowe or gagme I mean Clooney. Think he is a better actor too.
May 21st, 2006 at 1:34 pm
I saw the movie and I was very disappointed. TOM HANKS, ewwwwwwwwwww!
May 21st, 2006 at 4:43 pm
I saw the movie, and read the book. I loved the book, but the movie kinda’ stunk. The movie felt rushed, the characters felt flat, and it was all abound mediocere.
I’ll stay away from any religious portions of the subject, it’s enough to say the movie sucked as a movie.
May 21st, 2006 at 9:36 pm
Both you did not like Christine and Jusin T. I still gotta go. Always have to go see for myself.
