Lunch with the Greatest
I promised Ed to do this so long ago. Time I did it. The meme is if you could sit down with any historical figures for lunch, who would you pick and why? Ed chose 20 and so shall I.
- The Apostle Paul. The greatest mind of history, besides Jesus Christ. No one else comes close to his genius.
- Gaius Julius Ceasar. The greatest politician and general of Rome. He built a system of government that lasted for 500 years. His government was greater than the decadence of the men that took mantle after his assassination.
- General Douglas MacArthur. The greatest military man and diplomat that has ever served American. Only a lame petty ass like Harry Truman could fire such a man.
- Tokugawa Ieyasu. After years of war and deceit he united Japan under the Shogunate. Very shrewd and deadly.
- General Thomas Jonathon Jackson. A fantastic leader and Christian. He could teach all of us humility and service to those less fortunate. Not to mention he kicked Yankee butt everytime they engaged on the battlefield.
- Boniface. He created the Christmas tree and it would be delightful to listen to how he used these merry symbols to teach of Christ.
- Gary Gygax. He created dungeons and dragons. His work has brought a lot of delight to me. As I work on my own game designs I can only hope that I achieve a smidgen of the impact he has had on the gaming world.
- Shakespeare. The writer of all writers. He would be so interesting to listen to.
- President Theodore Roosevelt. He is the best President this country has ever seen. We shall never have a man of his integrity and capability in the White House ever again.
- Genghis Khan. I have always admired his ability to wage war and then make use of the subjugated people in further conquests. He truly was capable of conquering the world. Only death prevented that.
- Shaka Zulu. He has to be the greatest black man in African history. His ability kept his people strong for years even after his death.
- Frederick Hohenzollern II (the Great). The Prussian King was a very talented man. Musically and militaristically he excelled at his passion. He protected his tiny Kingdom from the giants that surrounded him.
- Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. The greatest Frenchman ever. Funny how the greatest Frenchman had to be imported. He is the greatest genius on the face of the Earth since Paul breathed his last. Very talented, but unfortunately too ambitious.
- Moses. The greatest man to live until Christ’s arrival. His genius spread across many fields. Don’t envy his position leading a bunch of whiners out of slavery. He has to be the most compassionate man in history.
- St. Patrick. I have always been fascinated by this man. Could be the Irish blood in my veins too. Did you know that he was a Presbyter and not a Catholic?
- Lady Rebecca or Pocahantis. She is an intriguing person. Would like to hear her impressions and comparisons between her home and England.
- Cleopatra Ptolemy. The last of her line. She was quite intelligent and cunning.
- King David. A man of greatness and flaws. No matter what mistakes he made, he always returned to the Lord. I could learn so much from him.
- Esther. Another intelligent women. She had to endure life as the wife of a jackass, the Persian Emperer Xerxes. He had to be the worst of all the Persian rulers.
- Abraham. The father of the Jewish race and the recipient of many promises for that race by God. One of the reasons the Jews are hated and killed with little provocation is that Satan seeks to prevent the promises to Abraham from becoming reality. One of the ways he can defeat God is by preventing a Holy promise.
There’s my 20 greatest. It might seem strange that I left Jesus Christ off the list. But I think it would be wrong to impose myself upon him. I have all eternity to bother him.

I would definitely want to ask King David how he could still sing all those psalms when things were going so bad for him at one time. I mean, how did he stay so faithful and trusting?? That’s something I really got to learn.
July 12th, 2006 at 7:03 pm
I’d have dinner with my late grandad. I think he’s historical…
July 12th, 2006 at 7:23 pm
David had a great faith in our Lord Bkworm. Amazing man. And he still gets judged by people not worthy of cleaning his feet today.
I think that would be wonderful May May. Of course he is.

July 12th, 2006 at 8:45 pm
Wow.. I would have been very very intimidated by having lunch with these people. Probably won’t be able to swallow my food.
I prefer to eat with normal people, they would make me feel more at ease.
July 12th, 2006 at 10:34 pm
It would not surprise me Pink Cotton. I want to hear about your great great (times a bunch) Grandpa Abraham.
YO!!! Who’s that tiptoing in me backdoor? Hugs misti.
He was pretty cruel though wasn’t he Seefei? Of course then so was Ghengis Khan. I liked another Emperor and I cannot remember his name or the dynasty. He came much later. I think in the century before the Mongols invaded. Argh. I would like to meet him out of all the great Chinese men. Dang. I cannot find my Chinese history books.
That would be another meme ZM. Who do you really want to eat with?
July 12th, 2006 at 11:45 pm

July 13th, 2006 at 8:44 am
Shakespeare and Roosevelt would both be on my list as well…I can only imagine the laughter that would ensue.
July 13th, 2006 at 8:54 am
Teddy Roosevelt looks like a jovial fellow. After all he is where we get the Teddy Bear. And that Shakespearian wit should keep the laughter at raucous levels Etchen.
July 13th, 2006 at 11:27 am
wow… I feel like I’m reading history when I go through your list
I would like to have lunch with my great great grandparents
We have the complete family tree record, with all the names of my great great great great great…. great great grandparents. I’m the 23rd generation in the Chen’s family
My grandparents were from Guangzhou, China and they migrated & settled down in Sarawak, Malaysia in their early years..
July 13th, 2006 at 11:38 am
I’d like to sit down with Socrates, Plato and Aristotle (be interesting to see how teacher and student interact given the divergences of opinions). Oh, and perhaps throw in Freud and Jung for more scintillating conversations..
July 13th, 2006 at 11:51 am
the thing about your memes is that you really put a lot of thought into them. Your list was rather impressive.
July 13th, 2006 at 11:53 am
beethoven and leonardo da vinci! they were so talented. i greatly admire their works.
July 13th, 2006 at 1:04 pm
That is so cool to be able to trace your roots back that far Chen. I love genealogy but have no time to pursue.
That would be interesting K..at. I would be pretty quiet and just listen to em chat.
Thanks Daphnewood. A minored in history so it was really hard to whittle down my choices.
They would be interesting to meet Lucia. I used to go to Bonn and visited the home where Beethoven was born. Very quaint townhouse in downtown. Must have been fun to run across those cobblestone streets as a child.

July 17th, 2006 at 12:04 pm
One thing I noticed of most of the people I selected Carcar. 13 were Jewish or Christian. Of the other 7 they had a strong dedication to a moral code, even if it was one that they devised for themselves or their state.
Ooh. Dinner how nice.
I’m fine misti. Been away from home most of the last 96 hours.
