Holiday Movie Time

When my family is home for a long holiday we try to catch up on all those movies we have missed as we are so busy the rest of the year. So we made a number of trips to the local grocery store’s red box to rent these flicks.

Have to admit that all of these movies were pretty entertaining too. None made me want to scratch my eyes out or plug my ears. Actually wish I could have watched Click a few more times. I bet it had a lot of cookies that I missed. Loved the music from this flick and may go find the soundtrack. Adam Sandler is so funny. The story’s theme can really hit you between the eyes.

Fun With Dick and Jane was a good ride. You really had to feel sorry for this couple. So glad this movie had a happy ending.

Did not know what to expect from Monster House. Being in the horror business to an extent I liked the premise they had here. Kind of reminded me of my youth and the fear of passing the local haunted house.

To appease the teenagers (my daughter and niece) I had to get some “cool” flicks. First was Accepted. I think this story is every student’s concern. What do you do when you spend your whole life getting ready to go to college and you are not accepted? Anywhere! It is funny what they do and the tension that builds between this fake school and the real one up the road.

The obligatory high school story was John Tucker Must Die. It was very funny and I enjoyed it despite holding no expectations of finding it entertaining. It is basically a revenge story meets Cinderella. I liked it.

Then I finally caught the big cartoon hit Cars. Pixar hits another homerun. Though my favorite part is the end of the movie at the drive in theater. They had the car versions of many old Pixar flicks. Pretty cute. They also paid a tribute to someone from Pixar that died. Not sure what he did. He was only 46 so it really opens your eyes to life is so short. I don’t know if he is an artist or voice for some charactes. Anybody know?

I finally caught Steve Martin in the Pink Panther. I loved this flick. Only Steve Martin can get away with this role. So hard to out do Peter Sellers.

But not all of our movie watching was limited to DVD. We try to go to the theater every holiday to see the big hits. This time our movie of choice was Casino Royale. Once more a Peter Sellers flick is out done. hehe

This had to be the best Bond flick I have seen since Sean Connery pulled out the Walther PPK. It had to be one of the most realistic. Stayed some what close to the story as I recall (been a while since I read) though it was also nicely modernized for current real world events. I hope they redo all of the Fleming stories with this Bond. My missus liked it so much she says she wants the DVD. This is after saying no to the two volumes of Bond films currently being marketed. I think she might find Mr. Craig to be a little bit hot. Hmmm…

Go see it if you have not done so already.

Oooooh, great reviews! I like it - short, sweet, and to the point! I haven’t watched a single one, even though I have an Uncle Ho version of Cars with me. I think I’ll wait for the original DVD release, cos this Uncle Ho’s version’s not very clear…

  2. LormaikaiBinge Says:

Dang! I can’t even spell my own name.. And I know CARS has been released, just not out here at the Supermarket. Any day now…

  3. zingtrial Says:

  6. Bkworm Says:

Daniel Craig is the hottest guy in town - ok, the hottest Bond so far (to me). And that pout, ouch! SO sexy! I gotta watch it again, if only to see those blue, blue eyes…..

  7. Bkworm Says:

err…what happened to my comment? Gee, and I was raving on and on about Daniel Craig and his sexy pout! What happened????

  8. zara's mama Says:

These are rented DVDs? Or you have Uncle Ho there too? Selling ‘original DVDs’ at USD2?

  9. CAR-sino royale Says:

    movie and more movie!

*i’m not a movie person leh*

hey have you ever heard of a local singapore production call ” I’m Not Stupid Too ” (mandarin movie)

heard it is good, but is an old show.

  10. Hijackqueen Says:

The only movie i’ve watched is High School Musical. Does that count?

  11. simple american Says:

Thanks Larmakaibinge. You should check these out as time permits. Blue Ribbon popcorn eating movie watching hugs.

I thought perhaps you were using a code name Larmaikaibinge. Or in the spirit of short sweet reviews you shortened your name, ya.

Hope you get to watch them soon Zingtrial. Red Ribbons for you sir.

Picks up swooning May and sets her on the comfy three seat sofa with ottomon at the side in case she rolls. I don’t like horror flicks that much despite the fact I write that genre. These flicks were much more my style. White Ribbon face fanning, legs raised, duvet grasping hugs.

Hug for you misti. So close la. :)

Daniel Craig looks to be in such good shape too Bkworm. His smile reminds me of my friend’s youngest son. Hey hey! I got blue eyes too la. See 0.0. Yikes. Black and white photography. *blush*

The comments are slow someday Bkworm. At least you did not go to the filthy spam section.

These are all rentals at the grocery store ZM. They rent em at $1 a day.

I have heard of that movie Car-sino Royale, but I have not seen it. It looks pretty cute tough.

Sure thing your highness. High School Musical counts all day. :)

  12. pinkie Says:

    yeah mr craig is hot…

  13. py Says:

What makes Casino Royale a movie worth catching? I have heard many people singing compliments of this film.

  14. simple american Says:

Okay. Another hot vote for Mr. Craig by Pinkie. I may get jealous if this keeps up. haha

It is just a well made film that goes back to the roots of the Connery films PY. If you like an action flick then this one does it and does not hit your disbelief button too much. Plus ladies find Mr. Craig rather handsome.

  15. py Says:

Hi SA, so it sounds like Casino Royale is an action film fairly realistically depicted?

By the way, you may like to check out my latest post. Though I don’t know how high the chances are, there’s at least a chance to win a holiday to Singapore.

  16. Kenny Ng Says:

Happy holiday and happy movie day… kekeke

  17. Angeleyes Says:

I like Click! too… caught it when I was on my way to LA. Did you watch Superman Return? Not so fantastic as I have expected. Anyway, hope you have a fun movie day with your family.

  18. simple american Says:

Thanks Kenny. Was a good time.

Superman Returns was disappointing. Especially since I am such a big comic book fan. We had a lot of fun. Look forward to more as Christmas arrives.

  31. fishtail Says:

Casino Royale was good; I like the poker scenes best.

  32. simple american Says:

I liked them a lot too. I guess they decided to go with the times and poker Fishtail. As I recall from the book they played Baccarat or something like that.

  33. fantasyflier Says:

  36. christine Says:

Casino Royale really surprised me. I was waiting for it to suck but it was really good. It made me laugh and made me want to make out with Daniel Craig. :)

  37. simple american Says:

My turn misti. Send buggie back.

I liked Casino Royale despite my expectations. However, I have no desire to kiss Mr. Craig after watching it. Eh hmmm…

  38. velverse Says:

    wooo lots of movie….
    A lot i miss out :(

  39. kimananda Says:

Hmmm…Casino Royale is tempting me as well (it just came out here last week). What did you (or perhaps I should say what did the missus) think of the hunky Danish villian?

  40. simple american Says:

You can catch up V. Go find Uncle Ho. :)

He was a great villian. I did not know he was a Dane, Kimananda. Definitely a neat character. The missus did not say anything about him. I think she was too busy looking at Mr. Craig. :P

  41. Pink Cotton Says:

    LOL!

thanks for the quick review of all those movies..

hmm i’ve missed out on a lot of movies….lets see…

    im raring to watch :

oh well…i guess i could use ur idea of watching all those movies during the holiday seasons :)

  42. simple american Says:

Sounds like a good plan to me Pink Cotton. I wanna see the Presige too. :)
