5 Things Post (About Gaming)
Chen has cursed blessed me with the five things tag. So I can talk about 5 random things. I choose to keep this on a game focus. Cuz I am still thinking about games now.
- 12 to Midnight had it’s shortest annual meeting ever this weekend. Only two and half hours long. Some of our past meetings lasted all day. What is the most part of the agenda. Getting things set up so we can go to Origins 2007 this July. A premier gaming convention and all five of the partners are going to attend. Woo Hoo!
- I played roleplaying games for over 20 hours this weekend. It was crazy and wild fun. We playtested Ed’s 12 Hours to Midnight. A game that works on the premise of Supernatural meets 24. The kids enjoyed it and could follow the story. So we know that adults should be able to get it then too. Yay. Very fast moving adventure. Gamers will love this. Went home and my son’s friends came over and I ran them through some more Eberron adventures. They loved it. Lots of game love going on here.
- I played my first roleplaying game in 1978. The same year my partner Ed started though I did not realize that until this weekend. A pair of lieutenants introduced me to the game. I remember orcs, wizards, and black puddings.
- The first wargame I ever played was Napoleon at Waterloo. I received it when I paid for a subscription to Strategy and Tactics magazine. The year was 1972 and I was 14.
- Some of my fondest memories are playing games with my mom and sister. We played a lot of Scrabble. We were so poor when I was younger I could not afford a Monopoly game. So I made one with typing paper and a lot of scotch tape. I found it years later as my mom kept it in a memory box.
It is freezing all over Texas. I hear Oklahoma has closed shop and pulled in the sidewalks because of the winter weather. I went out and bought groceries and rented some videos in hopes that it will be too frozen to leave home tomorrow. Why couldn’t it do this Christmas? Oh well. Hoping they close the schools tomorrow so I can stay home.
Also someone help me please. Somebody had posted about a website that lets you send SMS over PC. I thought it was Chen but I did not see it when I went back. So I must have my blogs mixed. Little help finding that link please. Thanks.

they haven’t cancelled school here yet. The kids already used up the snow days so they really don’t want to miss tomorrow. That would mean summer vacation wouldn’t start on time.
Stay warm and snuggly SA
SA: My kids are praying for snow. Went out and checked the wrappings on my pipes. Hope they hold up. Got a bunch of movies. Hope I don’t lose power. Red Ribbon Hugs for you.

I love Battleship and Monopoly. Played my first Uno last year. pathetic, huh?
It’s Arctic cold here, 10 below right now - dogs didn’t want to go out. My in-laws in Texas are saying it’s too cold for them and icicles hanging from the roof?
Stay warm!
SA: Those are fun. And vital when you get snowed up their in Minnesoto. I am so amazed at the number of people from Singapore and Malaysia that ended up in such a cold place.
We dodged a bullet so far. It is just frozen here, but no moisture. Though they promice a ice warning once the sun goes down tonight and I hit a little rain this morning.

I love scrabbles and monopoly!!!
SA: We were playing Savage Worlds in my company’s Pinebox setting. And with the kids I was playing Dungeons and Dragons in Eberron. Wow. Cafes in Japan? I’m moving. haha

Man that brings back memories for me. My first was Dungeons & Dragons and I kinda progressed to SSI’s Operation Market Garden, Questron and Kampfgruppe. Now it’s just a bit of Scrabble and the occasional video game. Wish I had more time.
SA: I played all of those except for Questron. Good fun. I wnet through a gaming drought for about 5 to 8 years. Tot I would never play again. Finally came out of it with flying dice.

You guys in TX are getting hammered by ice. Urghhh!! but yeah, don’t have to go to work!
After so many years in MN, I got to love the cold weather. Beats the hot and humid days of summer!
Take care!
SA: Finally hit hard enough that I did not have to go to work and kids can stay home. I like cold weather, but just in Texas size doses. Heat and humidity is so bad here. But I like it too.
You take care too. Scratch some doggie ears for me.

Thanks for point number 5. I have a hypothesis: that children tends to happy when they can play (meaningfully and safely) with their family members. So in my work, I would try to structure such that parents have a chance to play short games with their children.
SA: I can confimr that. My son loves it when we get all four of us around a table. Does not matter what game we choose.

Yikes.. gaming?? I can’t relate to this.
Btw, can’t seem to add comments in your tag post on the things you did for the first time.
I wanted to ask, how old is Third Grade.. (isn’t this like 9 or 10yrs old) and you had your first kiss then? Ooooo.. early starter.
SA: Lot of folks cannot relate to gamers. You’re just not a geek. Like my wife. haha
Don’t know why you cannot add a comment. Don’t like that.
I think it is 9 years old. I was really early starter. And then I never can get a girl friend in middle school or high school. So unfair. Probably because I am geek though. keke

when i was young i played scrabble and monopoly a lot… oh and mastermind too. scrabble when i played with my sister, i always end up as the loser (she’s only 3 years older than me). guess her vocab is much better than mine.
i don’t like role playing game. er… never get to understand it anyway.
SA: Roleplaying is definitely an acquired taste. Almost an addiction. hehe
