Bloggers are the Greatest!

When I returned home from my little jaunt across Texas. I was pleased to receive a card from Singapore. Goldilocks sent this lovely Christmas message and I wanted to thank her for remembering me.

I took another trip which will be blooged about later. Then I had to go back to work. Thought I was going to die. So much to do. So little time. Yikes. :)

But just when I thought the world had turned its darkest a little ray of sunshine arrived from Denmark. Thanks to Kimananda for the lovely Christmas parcel. Even had the chance to try some of her mom’s fudge, which was so nice. My missus and kids agree 100%. Thank you Kim.

Tripping with the Canadians

Thursday, January 4th, 2007

The Wednesday after Christmas we woke up early to go to San Antonio. #1 BIL, his wife, and youngest daughter are here from Toronto and we wanted to show them around a bit. #3 BIL joined us, driving his brand new Chevy Impala. San Antonio is such a beautiful, romantic place we could not help but take them there first.

I drove to the first gas stop and let the missus take over. The missus drove the rest of the way. It was appreciated too, as I was so tired from the short night’s sleep. The drive really went by quickly. When I was a kid this drive seemed to take forever.

When we arrived in San Antonio we checked into the Omni Hotel. The brothers went off to play golf while the rest of us went to Souper Salad for lunch.

After lunch we headed toward downtown. We parked at Rivercenter and walked across the street to the Alamo. I actually did not go in this time, as the missus and I had to find a hotspot at a Starbucks. Needed to make a payment that a bank error had kicked back. *grumble grumble imcompetent grumble grumble*

After that we just walked all over downtown. Browsing through shops and strolling along the river. We offered to take a boat tour, but Daiso (#1’s wife) and my niece were not interested.

Speaking of my niece it was so nice to hang out with her. I had not seen her in around seven years. Really smart kid. She is in her last year at the University of Toronto where she majors in Art History with a French emphasis. She actually speaks fluent French as she was in the French program from her entry into primary school. I remember when I first met her at age 6. She was so cute and chubby. I would entertain her with these funny voices I make. My niece actually went to acting classes way back then so she could learn how to make funny voices too. Cute, huh? Now this girl is taller than me and no longer amused by those old voices. Rats. haha

One of my daughter’s gifts from Santa was a promise. This promise consisted of getting her ears pierced. So we went to Icing at the Rivercenter and had it done. She looks so pretty now. Prettier!

collagesa3.jpg

We took our tired feet back to the hotel. There we collected the brothers who had a good time playing golf despite all the wind. After cleaning up a bit we left for the Mercado or Mexican market. This place feels like Mexico without having to cross the border. You can haggle in the shops and see all kinds of neat products from south of the border. The shops were closed when we arrived. But that was not a problem. We were there for Tex-Mex food, which we found at Mi Tierra (might have spelled that wrong. translates as my nation). Dinner was good and filling. Though I worried about Daiso when she bit into a jalapeno. She did not enjoy that.

Went back to the hotel and kicked back. My kids were washing up and I needed to go to the loo. So I took an elevator downstairs. Found some restroom near the banquest rooms (and my niece on the phone hehe). Went in and had a seat. I hear this guy moaning from the handicap stall and it’s not from pain mind you. Did my best to try and ignore the sound. Then this woman speaks, “All these wonderful years. Three perfect children.” My first thought is the radio station is piping in a dedication to the song. But when the woman moans I realize that the dude in the handicap stall is not doing a solo act. Cannot believe they are bumping uglies in a public restroom with people coming in and out. At least two other men came in while I was there. I’m so embarrassed to encounter them, I just left.

We slept in the next day and it felt so good. We drove over to Trinity University where #3’s daughter goes to school. She is in Houston, as the campus is closed for the holidays. We walked all over the campus. Really nice hilly campus for 2,000 students. Would not mind if my kids chose this school.

After that we drove to a nearby mall and ate lunch at Joe’s Crab Shack. We had some calamari and crab dip as an appetizer. I tried the crawfish etouffle’ and it was scrumptious.

After lunch we drove on to Austin. There we checked into the Renaissance Hotel. The place seemed so empty with its huge atrium courtyard. I doubt that 10% of the rooms were being rented.

We arrived a bit late in the day. Our niece wanted to read so the rest of us left her at the hotel. We went to The Oasis, which is a neat open air restaurant that overlooks Lake Travis. Our goal was to catch the sunset and we did. Quite lovely. They had some neat sculptures on the property too.

collageaustin2.jpg

We left The Oasis and drove over to #5’s house after picking up the niece. There we had a great meal that #5’s husband cooked. We really got stuffed as there was so much food.

The next day we slept in. Then we visited the restaurant for breakfast. While we were there I recruited the hostess to help me with a most important scheme. I needed a rose. A big bright red rose would be perfect and she found me one. Free too. Then I gave it to my missus as a reminder of our 20th anniversary. She was very pleased.  :)

collageaustin3.jpg

After breakfast we drove over to Mount Bonnel (sp?) for another view of Lake Travis and some huge homes. Wow! Talk about nice. After that we drove over to the Austin Museum of Fine Arts, which is a beautiful looking plantation home located along the lake. We drove over to the University of Texas. The plan was to walk over the campus, but the rain came and drove us back to our cars. We cruised around the campus where we could. Then we moved over to look at the capital through the rain. This is the closest I have ever been to the building. Really need to go inside someday.

We drove through the rain which started flooding the streets a bit. Our destination was a forgettable catfish restaurant. They fried everthing there and had no salad to speak of. It was not even worth a plug. After lunch we drove back to Sugar Land.

Really had a nice trip. Hope the inlaws enjoyed it. They went on to New Orleans, though they should return today or tomorrow.

Christmas 2006

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

Christmas is usually exciting at my home. This year was no exception. Number 5 and her daughter spent Christmas Eve and morning with us. I wanted to break into the gifts on Christmas Eve, but I tempered myself. The missus’ wooden spoon reinforced my ability to hold off my desire. So we actually went to bed a little early for a holiday, before two in the morning.

The scurrying of little rats work me up at the crack of 9:30. So early can die. Oh well. The rats were the kids peeking in their stockings. So I figured no more waiting. Time to wakey wakey.

collagexmas1.jpg

With Santa’s big butt out of bed it meant it was time to officially go through the stockings. There were six stockings hung on the stairwell. One for each kid. Yep that’s including me and the ladies.

collagexmas2.jpg

Next Santa handed out the presents from under the tree. No coffee brewed or breakfast served. That would delay the opening of presents. This would not be tolerated.

collagexmas3.jpg

We let our niece open her gift first. She was very pleased with the Ulta gift set Santa brought. Now she has all kinds of war paint.

collagexmas4.jpg

Then my daughter attacked her presents with glee. The look on her face when she saw the camera made waiting in the long line at Circuit City worthwhile.

collagexmas5.jpg

Next came the little guy. He seemed surrounded by gifts. I wondered if he would ever finish so I could open mine.

collagexmas6.jpg

Next package opener-upper was the missus. She was pleased with her pressies too. Of course she exerted a lot of influence with Santa as she was a very good girl last year. So there is no doubt she got what she wanted.

collagexmas8.jpg

Now that everyone else had opened their presents I could get to mine. I must have looked like the Tasmanian Devil as I tore off those wrappers. For those of you who remember an earlier post, you can now see what arrived from Bkworm. She sent me some spices so I can taste some Malaysian style food. I’ll be cooking soon! Woo Hoo! And the kids gave me some moose munch, which I called moose poop. How do you like that moose imitation?

collagexmas7.jpg

Presents opened, the missus made a quick breakfast. Another scheme to keep us boys away from the Xbox. Man! We devoured the food in record time and then it was upstairs to try out Gears of War. Great game. Graphics are so tight and the game play is good. Very real feel that I like having been a soldier. We played every second that we could. muahahahaha

Number 4 came over with her boyfriend. He watched us play, while number 5 helped cook a huge Chinese feast. I was so busy playing I never got around to taking any pictures of the feast the three ladies prepared. It was good though. Number 3’s wife and daughter joined us for lunch. Always nice to see those ladies. Number 3 was out playing golf with number 1 who had flown in from Toronto earlier in the day.

After lunch we let the boyfriend play. My son wanted to go raiding in World of Warcraft with his friends. So we had fun. Started over again and killed more Locust, who are the bad guys in the game. How dare they attempt to wipe out humanity! We played until he had to leave. They could not even get us to budge to go see Eragon. And I really want to see that flick, but Gears of War is just so fantastic I could not set the joy stick down. They left.

My son is still playing his game, so I tried out Call of Duty 2. Pretty impressive too, though the graphics are a bit dated after playing Gears of War. I enjoyed playing as a Russian soldier in Stalingrad. Once again the Fascist is defeated on the banks of the Volga.

Finally forced myself to bed as Tuesday would be a busy day. I wanted to place the title on my brother’s truck into my name. I really wasted a lot of time though. Finally I got to the county courthouse at 12:30 and they were closed for the holiday. Bummer. So then I figured I would go check out the truck and see if I could move it at all. Wife called as I was going down the freeway to remind me that we had to be at number 4’s house at one for lunch. How did I miss that event on my schedule?

So I went back home to get the kids and help pack food and presents. Forgot my camera I was in such a hurry. It was nice to get there and see everyone. Number 1, his wife and youngest daughter were there. So was number 3, 4, and 5. 3 brought his MIL and it was nice to see her. Had been a long time. 5 had her daughter as well as her husband and of course 4 and her boyfriend were present. Also had a couple of 4’s friends present. There was much feasting and present opening. I received a bag made from a kangaroo scrotum as a gift from number 1. There are three pissed off male kangaroos out there as all of us men got one of these. Kind of neat to have a pouch with no seam as Daiso (number 1’s wife) pointed out.

The boy friend heard me talking about my brother’s truck. He said he would be happy to tag along and take a look at it. I jumped at this as he is very good mechanic and I am very good accountant. It made since to have him look at it more than me. haha We got there and to my surprise it started right up despite sitting there for at least a month. I asked the boyfriend to drive it and he said sure. So we moved it to safe place. I was worried that apartment might put a lien on the vehicle as I do not know if my brother had paid the rent. I doubt it after looking at his finances.

So after parking the truck we drove over to the Imperial Palace restaurant for dinner. I still did not have my camera. Fortunately I had an apetite. How after such a big lunch I don’t know? We had two big tables as everyone from the lunch party was there plus number 3’s brother-in-law, wife, and two sons. We had men at one table and women at the other. Good time. Nice to catch up with what happened to everyone since the Alaska cruise. Talked about doing it again in the Gulf of Mexico or the Med.

The evening passed quick and we needed to get home. There were bags to pack and coolers to fill. Why? Going to take number one and his family to San Antonio and Austin. The day was a whirlwind. Did not even get a chance to post a farewell before I hit the highway on Wednesday.

Happy New Year My Good Chupsters

Hug Hug Club of Texas

Somehow I have survived December. What a rollercoaster of a month it proved to be with its highs and lows! Talk about a mixture of depression and joy. A need for solitude and socializing. The month really fit the format of a Greek drama with all of the emotions being touched like it did. Let us hope for a calmer January and New Year.

Sorry I dropped off the face of the Earth like I did after Christmas. The time passed in a blink of an eye and I have not really been able to do things as I normally would. Boy was I surprised when I visited my own blog and found adware crap popping up on my site. Boy do I ever want to sue somebody!. Will settle for getting the popup removed. All suggestions are welcome in this regard.

As for last week I will be posting my adventures here soon. I downloaded Picasa2 and have prepped some collages of my travels. Be on the look out all you chupsters!

December saw a pretty even field in the chup department. But once again Little Miss May rules and just by a nose mind you. She tied at 19 points, but since she had more Red Ribbons (1) than Lormaikaibinge (the blogger also called L B) she wins under the Texas Hug Hug Club rules. She has earned the Blue Star and the first New Year’s hug. Well done my friend.

Blue-Star.jpg

The Red Star belongs to Lormaikai Binge who chupped so hard last month. This is his second Blue Star in a row also. Something tells me the chupping is about to get hotter and heavier (while remaining fashionable) in Italia.
Red-Star.jpg

With all of these repeat winners, chuppers might expect the same for the White Star. But that is not so. After seeing her name on the chup board last month, Chen stepped up and took control of thrid place. Quite a finish as a number of folks were hot on her heels.

White-Star.jpg

Great month for all of you chuppers. Wuching and Daphnewood ended the month just one blue ribbon away from a star. Holiday travel may have hurt there chances and I suspect they may have better finishes in 2007. Thanks to all of you that visit my blog and take the time to read my posts.

And here are the point totals for December.
