Still Thinking About These

Friday, September 28th, 2007

It is almost October. I cannot believe how quickly this year is passing by. Just blows me away how quickly the time goes by. Before I know it I will have to think about anniversary gifts.

I still think about these photographs displayed upon canvas. Those look very nice in my opinion. Makes me feel like the family had a portrait painted instead of just a snap shot. And I bet someone’s parents (the missus) would like these too.

My Home Desktop

I thought it might be nice to show off the desktop at home too.

I love all of the green tones in this photo. It is so relaxing. And it makes me think of Asia. I can imagine walking along a road besides a bamboo forest. Wonder who would be walking with me?

Texas B & B

Friday, September 28th, 2007

I need a break from everything. Once the audit is completed I may just go some place and hide. A Texas bed and breakfast might be nice for me and the missus to visit. This web site has a great many Texas bed and breakfast to choose from. Quite honestly I love the map that they used on this page. It breaks Texas up by its ecosystems. So outsiders can see that Texas is a lot more than desserts. Anybody else ready for a weekend in Texas?

Yummy stuff and a lovely post card. One day I will walk across that bridge. But for now I will eat some Singapore curry. My missus is so eager to get some chicken.

Thank you PY.  :)

Can You Hear My Heart Beat?

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Currently, I seek to lose weight. Healthy weight loss incorporates a balance of diet and exercise. When exercising I like to track my heart beat. To achieve this I use a pulse oximeter to monitor the heart rate.

I like to work my heart beat up to 120 beats a minute. When I have not reached this level I step up my routine. If I see my heart go to 130 beats I slow down a bit, as I do not want to over exert myself. Though I admit that I really do not have a clue regarding what is a healthy pulse count. What do you watch when you work out and have you ever used a pulse oximeter?

Desktop Post

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Giddy Tiger has come to my rescue. Just when I have nothing to write, she has tagged me. Thank you my good friend. And if you have never visited her before, go now. Her desktop is so cute. Go look and your heart will melt instantly. Why? I am not saying, go look.

Here is my desk top at work.

This image is the artwork used on Dungeons and Dragons’ game book Sharn City of Towers. This is my favorite D&D setting ever. I love Sharn as it is a dynamic location for launching an adventure.

Don’t my desktop look junky? haha I download data for analysis and toss it on the desktop so I can find it quick and I know that it is something I don’t have to keep. Then I don’t get around to deleting them. Some of them are images downloaded for the blog too. I need a digital broom, don’t I?

My Desktop Free View Instruction:

A. Upon receiving this tag, immediately perform a screen capture of your desktop. It is best that no icons be deleted before the screen capture so as to add to the element of fun. You can do a screen capture by:

[1] Going to your desktop and pressing the Print Scrn key (located on the right side of the F12 key).

[2] Open a graphics program (like Picture Manager, Paint, or Photoshop) and do a Paste (CTRL + V).

[3] If you wish, you can “edit” the image, before saving it.

B. Post the picture in your blog. You can also give a short explanation on the look of your desktop just below it if you want. You can explain why you preferred such look or why is it full of icons. Things like that.

C. Tag five of your friends and ask them to give you a Free View of their desktop as well.

D. Add your name to this list of Free Viewers with a link pointing directly to your Desktop Free View post to promote it to succeeding participants

Memory For Ed

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

I think my buddy Ed has owned his Dell laptop for close to a year now. Wonder how it has working for him? One thing I have learned with a computer is you can never have enough memory. If Ed needs a boost I found a place that stocks Dell Memory. They carry memory for a lot of other major brands too.

And they carry all types of memory too. They have DDR modules, SDRAM modules, and EDO modules just to name a few. Want to speed up your productivity. Give your computer brain a boost.

No Malay Food Tonight

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

My son is so tired that my missus cannot wake him up. He stayed up most of the night working on a project. Something he probably should have done last weekend when he was playing World of Warcraft. So no scouts tonight and therefore no Malaysian food. Will go straight home. As straight as the road allows. Maybe next week I can get my Nasi Lamak fix.

GPS Insight

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

Once I get my firm running full time I shall need to find a variety of technologies to help my clients. GPS Insight is one such company I want to investigate. This business has some nice GPS tools that should be invaluable to any company that employs a fleet of trucks or automobiles and desires to track them.

Once the GPS device is hooked up to company vehicles there is a variety of information that can be gathered. Vehicle locations can be tracked, manufacturer recalls are provided, diagnostic reports are produced, roadside assistance can be requested, maintenance logs are kept, and mapping are some of the features provided by the standard package.

How do they do it? They combine satellite tracking with AT&T/T-Mobile phone services. Those are some big names so you can bet on their reliability. They have a link to the AT&T Coverage Tool on their site. This is nice as the business owner can determine if the service covers the organization’s area of operation.

Curious how this might work. They have a nice demo on the website that provides a look at the interface. You get maps of the area you want to follow. You can zoom in or zoom out. Vehicles can be tracked or ignored with a simple click of a mouse. Vehicle status can be picked up on the screen too. You can tell if the vehicle’s ignition is on and how fast the vehicle is currently moving. They even provide the speed limit for the road traveled.

Curious how this might be implemented at your company? GPS Insight has a support site that provides contact information. It also presents a FAQ that helps the user make the best use of this product. I am betting that most of your questions can be answered on this page. Heck. They even have a wiki set up to assist customers.

If you want to know even more information, then visit the company blog. That is right. They have a blog set up and by the founder no less. I found it to be quite interesting to see how this entrepreneur went about the issues affecting his product. As a student of business this interests me. By collecting the data it showed how to determine what the average trip is for different routes. Variances can help an owner pick out an inefficient truck or lazy driver. That has the potential to improve the company’s bottom line.

So as a CPA, whenever I see a company that is looking to improve efficiency with their fleet. You can bet I am going to mention GPS Insight to them as a solution.

Why Am I So Tired?

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

It is just Tuesday. Why do I feel like Thursday? Scared the drive home is going to be long tonight. I wonder if I have to pick up my son from Scouts tonight. Hmm… If I do then I must visit that other Malaysian restaurant. Nasi Lamak sounds pretty good right about now.

Sorry that I am not reading, commenting, or responding to comments at my usual pace. It is just that time of the year where I have to really bear down at work. But I still feel pretty guilty for not visiting at my normal rate.
