Calling Southeast Asia Is Not Good Enough
Has anyone out there ever used internet phone service? I just discovered an internet phone service provider called VoIP and I like what I see. Truly, I almost fainted when I saw they offered Freedom Unlimited Global option that allows unlimited calls to Southeast Asia. I can say I love your accent. You can tell me how sexy I sound. And the missus will be happy cause we are not spending an arm and a leg and she can call Hong Kong free. This service only cost $29.99 a month too. Incredible.
But talking to my friends on the other side of the world is not good enough. No! I wanna see who I am chatting with. VoIP is going to give nine creative bloggers a video phone and six free months of service. Can you believe that? I can see yours and you can see mine. That’s right. You can show me all of those wonderful fruits and makan dishes, while I can show you some Texas steaks on the grill. Er, what did you want to see anyway?
They have two phone that the winners can choose from too. I like the Packet8 Tango videophone as seen below:
Pretty cute huh? And the device is so compact that it won’t crowd my desk. The feature that sold me on this phone is 3-way videoconferencing. Can you believe it? More makan makan stands for you folks to show me. I can see the Merlion and the Penang Beach or twin towers of Kay El at the same time. Plus this phone also has a built in router? And installing it is so simple. A standard analog phone can be transformed into a videophone. Oh gosh. Who do I call first? I better win the phone before I set up a call list.
Getting this service functioning should be easy too. All I need is broadband. Check. And then purchase a Packet8 service plan and phone hardware from VoIP. They have helpful videos on their website to assist customer installation. Once the equipment is installed, you activate your account and you are ready to chat. Oh, I have a couple of Malaysian phone numbers here. Who do I call first? Eenie, meenie, miney, conference call!
Oh wait. There is more. Just because you have an internet phone provider does not mean your telephone service is diminished in comparison to your old land line. Features include voice mail, caller ID, call waiting/blocking/return, and do not disturb to name a few. I think it is cool that you can manage your account on line too. A website to peek at between blog visits.

I use Skype for work teleconference call with suppliers as far as Denmark.
I hear that’s what they’re using for real-time, long distance gaming as well.
SA: Skype is super. I used that to talk to my missus when she went to the Phillipines and Hong Kong. Also has some vid capabilities.
Have you looked at the press on D&DInsider. Sounds like that can stretch a game pretty far too. And it is not going to be limited to WOTC games either. I cannot wait to see how it works.

i don’t want to get a videophone because then i’ll actually have to be decently dressed for work-phone conferences!! i barely even brush my teeth before work these days
although calling asia cheap cheap sure is a good thing to have! (i need to buy a mike for my laptop, then i’m skypeing it!)
SA: Do you work in your pee jays? That is what my missus does most days. hehe
A good mic is necessary for Skype. Otherwise you’re gonna hear a lot of “What?”
