A Dish Best Served Cold

Revenge is a common theme for movies. Most Clint Eastwood cowboy flicks deal with revenge. The Forty-Seven Ronin is a classic tale of vengeance that has seen the silver screen in six different adaptions. A recent revenge film and one of my favorites is V For Vendetta. These films offer several different motives for vengeance. They range from avenging murdered family members all the way to patriotic motives.

I remember how V For Vendetta had the mysterious V striking against a despotic government. I love how V takes over the television studio to deliver his message to the government. But the best scene has to be when he destroys the Parliament building in London. Stories that portray the destruction of evil governments are very enjoyable. And V For Vendetta has quite a satisfying conclusion.

Movie goers can look forward to a new revenge film from Tim Burton this Christmas. The film is Sweeny Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. This is the story of Benjamin Barkman, a barber, who has a lovely family, but Judge Turpin (Alan Rickman) ruins this man. The barber, played by Johnny Depp, is imprisoned and loses his wife and daughter. His loss changes him and after escaping prison he becomes known as Sweeny Todd. A man fueled by his lust for revenge. He lashes out at the people that destroyed his life and seeks to spread his misery by means of his straight razor. But Todd does not limit his vengeance to the guilty, he strikes out at all forms of morality.

I encourage all readers to visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site and see if you do not find this film interesting. While you are surfing also visit Sweeney Todd on MySpace. Once you are done I think you shall be as excited about this film as I am.
